work

As I approach day 13 of 20 straight days of work, I can only be grateful that I work in the food service industry in the City of Brotherly Love while the Phillies are in the world series. It's a little insane, but the money is there for sure.

But this whole not having a day off thing is beginning to take its toll on me, both mentally and physically. Here is how you know you've been working way too much:

1. All you talk about are work related issues, your coworkers, someone you met at work, something you ate at work, your boss etc.

2. The guy at the parking garage knows your name, your schedule, gives you a discount and suggests that you get a prescription for Ambien to help you sleep.

3. You can't remember your last day off.

4. You can't remember the last fun thing you did. Oh wait, yes you can, and it was a few months ago.

5. Your friends have no clue what's going on in your life and think you've fallen off the face of the earth.

6. When you leave work you have to lock up the building.

7. Your boss has to force you off the premises to take a break.

8. It's very difficult for you to relax, ever.

9. Your coworkers start saying things like "You're working again?" and "Weren't you just here last night?"

10. You have no hobbies.

Yes, the preceding information is a clear indication that you (I) need a vacation. Or at the very least you need a little time off. I'm trying to take my own advice. Once you start overdoing it and becoming a workaholic, the quality of your work will suffer...and so will your quality of life.

  1. We should go traveling! I'll be there with you soon with the whole no vacation day thing. Once Christmas season starts I'll be working like 12 hrs a day for 7 days a week, YAY! We can commiserate together

  2. Yes, let's go traveling i'm sure I'll be able to pencil that one in between the no days off and the no money
